Midst the COVID 19 pandemic and its fierce third wave, on Thursday the 27th of May, the “Egyptian Programme for Promoting Industrial Motor Efficiency” held its first steering committee virtually to create synergies for a further more coordinated and efficient implementation of promoting industrial motor efficiency solutions in Egypt through the framework of IMEEP project. The steering committee’s attendees comprised of 20 members affiliated to diverse entities including; Global Environment Facility, Egyptian Organization for Standardization & Quality, Ministry of Trade & Industry, Ministry of International Cooperation, Ministry of Environment, Industrial Modernization Centre, Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), and Egyptian National Cleaner Production Center (ENCPC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The committee was chaired by Dr. Abir El Saady, the Minster of Trade & Industry’s advisor for funding and development projects who gave the opening remarks and subsequently handed the floor over to the Regional Director & UNIDO Representative in Egypt Dr. Bassel El-Khatib and then UNIDO’s team of experts and IMC team to explain the project’s pillars, the current situation, work plans and the progress achieved in activities organized around the project’s four components; (i) Conducive Policy and Legal Environment for EE Motor Systems, (ii) Awareness and Capacity Building on Energy Efficiency in Motors and Motor Driven Systems, (iii) Technical Assistance for Technology Demonstration and Upgrading ,(iv) Support for developing the ESCO market, with a specific focus on EMDS optimization and motor upgrades.
